A $750 million-plus SNF initiative organized around five main pillars
Carried out with exclusive support from SNF, the Foundation’s $750 million plus global Health Initiative (HI) seeks to strengthen physical and mental health by improving the quality of care for all, expanding access, and empowering providers on the front lines.
The initiative is founded on collaboration: extensive public-private partnership in Greece and collaboration with international research institutions.
The SNF Health Initiative, which initially focused on Greece, now spans the globe, including support for the construction of the Sant Joan de Déu Integrated Pediatric Cancer Center in Barcelona and collaboration with hospitals in the United States and Jordan. SNF also supports The Rockefeller University in pursuing global research on infectious diseases and collaborates with field-leading specialists, like those at the Child Mind Institute and Columbia University in New York, on strengthening access to effective mental health resources around the world.
New SNF hospitals help pioneer standards for a zero-carbon future
Three new hospitals to be built across Greece as part of the SNF Health Initiative will pilot a new framework of zero-carbon readiness in collaboration with leading sustainability certifiers.
In 2017, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and Renzo Piano Building Workshop (RPBW) in collaboration with Betaplan embarked on a common vision to create and deliver to the Greek National Health System hospitals for the future. The SNF General Hospitals of Komotini and Sparta, and the SNF University Pediatric Hospital of Thessaloniki will be three, state-of-the-art public hospitals located in underserved healthcare peripheries of Greece providing equitable, universal and quality medical care for all. Scheduled for parallel delivery within 2025, the three hospitals envision to bring about a new standard in public healthcare in Greece and beyond.
