The four new aircraft offer immediate and safe air transport for ill and injured patients from remote areas of the country to central locations in Greece and Europe to receive requisite urgent care. The new aircraft is used exclusively to enhance EKAV’s services, to ensure emergency pre-hospital and/or medical care for all, as well as the most up-to-date medical equipment for EKAV’s specialized air ambulance staff (flying doctors, rescuers, nurses). At the same time, the grant is expected to contribute to significant resource savings.
Implementation of the grant was made possible through SNF’s collaboration with the Hellenic Ministry of Health, which will own the aircraft; EKAV, which uses them; and the Hellenic Air Force, which assists in their flight operation. The Air Force completed training programs for flight and technical personnel; allowing for the aircrafts to go into operation in June 2021. In the first semester of operation, the aircrafts completed 111 flights across Greece.
